I do like that !!!

But what about

SATOR
AREPO
TENET
OPERA
ROTAS

Or have I got it in the wrong order?

It should be the same 'back and up' as well, although you will have to remind me what it means..

That's good: it reminds me of a card trick I used to do, the only line of which I can remember is TITUS. Do you know that one?

I now remember it:
TITUS
SOLON
DIANA
ELUDE
Nothing to do with palindromes but 10 pairs of letters. Put 20 cards into 10 random pairs. Ask somebody to choose a pair without revealing which one. Place the cards as per the pairs of letters in the above design. Ask which row or rows the pair is in. Then you know the cards. You can then make up an elaborate finale of your choice and reveal them.

Sorry, poppet, but you've lost me a bit on that one.. Are you sure these are playing cards ?

Yes. Get 20 playing cards and put them in 10 random pairs eg JH & 2C and QS and 4D etc. When you put them into 4 rows of 5 cards, make sure you keep the JH & 2C in the place of 2 Ls or 2 Ts etc, ditto the QS and the 4D. Is that clearer?
