Wake up with the sun
Morgan Stanley very kindly took our office out for dinner last night. Their expense accounts are still intact, perhaps because they've had 2000 redundancies and the structured credit department has been axed completely. One of them, a Taiwanese Texan, told me that she lives near the office in Canary Wharf but still has to set her alarm for 5am in order to be in at 6am. She has three alarm clocks and a Lumie to achieve this. I had not heard of Lumies before. They are devices which create your own sunrise in your bedroom so that you wake up slowly and your body adjusts naturally rather than being jolted out of a deep slumber by a harsh ringing (or earthquake if you're in Market Rasen).

What a crazy world we live in.
What long can you live like that before you burn out? It must be terrifying knowing there is always someone else willing to step into your shoes and work harder for less money.
Lumie? How about just leaving the curtains open?
Hi ED - yes it's crazy
Morning Ellee - these banks suck the life blood out of people
Greetings Mopsa - I suppose her point is that she gets up before sunrise in the winter.
Ah, but does it make tea?
Hi SM - that would be a bonus, as would a bacon sandwich
So does the 6am started finish at a sensible time or is she dooing 12 hour shifts? Does the Working Time Directive not apply for bankers?
I am up at 6am but that's because I have horse things to do and a long commute.
Yes M&M she's on a 12 hour shift. I asked her if she goes home at lunchtime (I used to go home and cry under my duvet after a bad morning) but she has a sandwich at her desk. It's jolly to you to see the dear grey mare every morning.
A lumie - I must get one of those!
A sign you really do live to work is when you need a Lumie!
