Sign of banking times

HSBC is cutting 1200 (0r 2900 according to Unite union) jobs while Bank of China is creating 10,000.

Hm could that be because the Chinese need extra people to man to abacuses? Or is that abaci? I've no idea.
On the other hand, I expect the people getting the chop will be amongst the Casino element rather than the boring old cheque-cashing lot.

It's because Chinese banks are booming, KL, with the easing of liquidity over there: loan growth is going through the roof and the Shanghai stockmarket's up 30% so far this year, having been one of the worst markets last year.
