Swedish snuff

I thought snuff was inhaled but Swedish "snus" comes in a pouch like a small teabag which is placed under the top lip enabling the nicotine to seep into the gums. Anyway, it's very popular in Sweden following the public smoking ban and the unwillingness to nip outside for a cigarette during the freezing winters, so much so that 20% of the 1.2m snus users are women. One Swedish woman says that its main advantage is that it doesn't make your clothes smell but adds, "Just remember to brush your teeth a lot, otherwise you'll look like an old hag."

I'll stick to the old Gauloises freezing temperatures or not. Don't like the sound of a snus teabag.

Having seen pictures of people who got oral cancer after using these invidious things, I think you would be well advised to publish a 'health warning' with every mention of them.

Don't look it up if you were planning to use these things, as I can guarantee it would put you off..

I can remember people coming into my Dad's shop in Bristol for a "bag of snuff." They used to put it up their noses, which I thought was horrible. It stank, too.

Thank you for that health warning, Anon (not that I was going to try it!)

Hi Ellee and WL - yes, snuff doesn't have good connotations eg "snuffing it"
