My grandmother, she of the drunken butler, is said to have said that a gentleman would never wear his braces while playing tennis but, as a gentleman, he could afford to do so.
Not too sure about the truncated tie.

P. -yes I remember your grandmother's drunken butler. I think it was almost a requirement to have such a thing at one time. And of course a gentleman can actually do anything. Provided he doesn't scare the horses....
And Ellee I think I would probably have been away on business.....
