Oh Come On! I had a pop gun at least and a sheath knife which was the apple of my eye. I was always on the look out for 'baddies'. I only found them much later in the Middle East and in Libya and a few lurking about in Ireland.
There is some research I believe which shows that because young children nowadays do NOT play Cowboys and Indians and aren't allowed knives, when they get a bit older their aggressive instincts are much worse. Of course, when I was little I didn't get long trousers until I was 12 ( which I think was pretty much the norm) and my own view would be that not being in short trousers and getting your knees skinned almost certainly makes you a less good person.....
Ah Kinglear you're my man! I still have a World War II wound on one knee. To be exact it was just after VE Day. I whirled my bike into the remains of a Victory Bonfire and sustained my proudest scar. I'll show you when we meet for a double Wincarnis.
