Strolling through Harrods last week to meet a dear friend for lunch, I was flabbergasted to be offered a pot of Estee Lauder face cream for £150. Apparently the cost of diving to the seabed in Mexico for the essential ingredients has pushed up the price. Do Mexican local facial products have an excellent reputation or is this just another rip-off for women, along with very expensive hosiery which ladders on its first outing? Is there any evidence that women's skin has improved commensurately with the inflation in the price of creams? I've asked the fabulous Lucy Yeomans, Editor of Harper's Bazaar, to look into it.

But a better day out for fashionable girls is a pot of Garnier Ultra Lift (£5.95 at Badger's Farm Sainsburys.....and you can see the difference in an hour), followed by a Cafe Latte in the instore Starbucks.

Crikey - you do move in rarefied circles...

I am no expert at this, as I am not even 'metrosexual' enough to moisturise regularly.

Although many men now by Nivea products, I can assure you that there are the rare guys who buy 'Creme de la Mer' [I think] which has a price far north of the one you were offered...

Many seem to think that the now re-branded 'Oil Of Ulay' works a treat.

But I think your research ought to focus on what Martha Kearney and Twiggy Lawson use. They look 20 years younger so whatever they use, it must be worth the money. You have 2 chances of them sharing this knowledge with you..

Bob Hope..

No Hope..

Sorry, but have just re-read this post.

Isn't there a rather obvious solution here ? One supposes that for the cost of a dozen of these products you could pop over to Mexico for the entire winter, and have plenty of change to buy the 'raw materials' which they are using down the local market. Whether the lovely sun out there would cancel out the effect is a moot point - at least it might be warm.
