Joke of the day
I had drinks at the Bank of England the other day and saw many symbols of Britannia and also the Roman stamp SPQR (Senatus Populusque Romanus). One of the Bank officials joked that he had thought it stood for Small Profit, Quick Return.

Ah so that's the joke...
This is the Bank of England...
I'm deeply saddened that such erudite people as BofE officials joke about Latin. Mind you, it is a very British characteristic to denigrate ones's knowledge. I think it was George Mikes (prounced Mickesh) in " How to be an Alien" mentioned his friend, a Professor of Geography, who, when asked the capital of Spain to settle an argument, hummed and hawed and finally said he was not totally certain but it was definitely not Barcelona.
Should we be worried?
