I have an invitation to the Institute of Contemporary Art's exhibition about the Iraq War. The caption is "Blown up by a bomb hidden inside a body blown up by a bomb."
WW - there was an excellent exhibition at the arnolfini in bristol featuring uncensored 'recorded as live' footage which had been filmed in Iraq either by news agencies, or by unembedded 'human shields', or by Iraqi civilians.
That truly brought home the tension and anxiety felt by Iraqis as they try to go about their daily lives.
It did also make me wonder whether we can ever really achieve the objectives of re-building that fractured country after we've done so much to destroy it.
The most ironic footage was of people going round an Iraqi art gallery which was an oasis of self expression and beauty in the midst of a wilderness of savagery and brutality.
Mark Urban did a good film for Newsnight which indicated that the 'surge' is having some effect - but it really is just keeping a lid on things - reconstruction is still a long way off, it seems to me.
Anon - I think you're right about reconstruction. I'm going to go to that exhibition next week. Heard Jon Snow extolling the merits of Iran last night. He says no US President or UK PM has visited the country since the Revolution.
Eh ?! Where is the exhibition ? I didn't realise it was going to be anywhere else, and I have had some people asking if it is going to be anywhere else ? I would [seriously] be very interested indeed to know.
