Temptation

I've decided to be very naughty and am visiting my jeweller at lunchtime. I haven't bought anything from him for seven years so feel that this seven year famine has now come to an end. The last time I went there, I ordered a divorce present for myself: a large blue topaz ring. You might call it a knuckle duster. This year my mother's amethyst necklace and brooch have come to me so I thought I'd commission an amethyst ring and earrings to complete the set. I've chosen the ring which will have an amethyst in the centre and white topaz stones on each side, set in gold and I'll see what suggestions he has for earrings. The problem is that his shop is like Aladdin's Cave. It's full of the most exquisite things (he's moved his shrunken heads from Borneo upstairs these days). I recommend a seven year famine from temptation every so often.

Oh, Winchester, save your dosh, get a toy boy - far more entertaining - like Lego, they are a 'New Toy Everyday'.. Or is it really true that Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend ?

Very sad to see that Deborah Kerr has passed away, although I'm ashamed to say that I've never seen 'From Here to Eternity'. Let's hope that they bring out a new 'Big Screen' version as they did with Casablanca recently.

Ingrid Bergman was absolutely stunning in that.

Ah, they do say Diamonds are a girls' best friend, but I have to say that personally I have always preferred the various coloured stones. But they are DEFINITELY the to way to most girls' hearts. We shall expect to see you in full regalia on 15th!

anon - she came from Helensburgh where Mrs. Lear was born. Her brother was killed in a road rage incident in 2004. I saw her in at least two of the ( sometimes not very good) plays she was in, and she was quite definitely as attractive as Audrey Hepburn.

Anon - I haven't seen that film either. It sounds good though. I have to confess (don't shout at me) that I don't have a dvd player. As for the tb, he's an expensive habit, but worth it.
KL - it probably won't be ready by then but if it is, I may!

WW,
I thought you might be interested i this.

Amethyst has come to be known as a power crystal with prolific healing powers which can be characterized as purifying, pacifying and transitional. Amethyst has the ability to transform lower energies into higher and acts as a healer at all levels of mind, body and spirit.
Amethyst as a healing stone contains sobering and calming qualities which allow this stone to be commonly associated with peace. Amethyst is known to calm and protect the mind. It soothes those who have engaged in constant rigorous mental activity. It has been deemed "nature's tranquilizer" by many healers because of it's effectiveness in relaxing not only the mind but also the nervous system. Those who wear amethyst jewelry and who have been recommended to wear this stone for healing purposes have done so because of its tranquil qualities and it's ability reduce negativity and alleviate anxiety.
AND TO CONCLUDE:Amethyst has identified as a crystal that functions favorably in clearing certain types of blockage and in aligning the Chakras.

I would still prefer a Maserati.

Tranquillity is what I need, ED. You and Belle would look cool in a Maserati

Will you post some photographs when you get it? I haven't visited the jewellers for a long time. I make my own jewellery. I mainly use swarvoski crystal,Murano beads,semi-precious stones and freshwater pearls. My daughters think they are very lucky.

I'm quite prepared to attempt the toy boy bit - unfortunately, I'm about three times too old.

WW - I would never shout at you for not having a DVD, as I don't have a telly myself. But you might be able to make do with a new laptop that has a player included for the odd occasion when you might want to catch up on an old film.

WW, good for you. You deserve this treat and I'm sure the new jewellery will be lovely as well as reminding you of your mother.

Eurodog - hm. This is a small story you may appreciate. Many years ago, my black lab was to be used as a stud with a fairly effete yellow bitch. The owner of the bitch was a stentorian lady in tweeds who smoked Capstan full strength. My dog would do nothing, and the lady in question threw her dog bag in the car and roared off down the road shouting " Your dog's nothing but a poof" ( This was many years ago when gay still meant something different) I felt crushed - until I heard a day or two later than two other dogs had also refused to do the business - the bitch in question was "over"

Lovely story, KL.
The picture you have drawn of the lady reminds me of Gertrude Stein.
