The German trains were unbelievably superb and continuously cleaned - the rubbish was all separated on the train and dropped off every hour or two. The major stations were all open ( properly open) 24 hours a day. The Austrians had set up refugee camps for the Brits who couldn't get home and Gordon Brown had done precisely nothing ( remember busses supposed to pick up people in Spain?) I got on a boat at Hook of Holland which was usually a car ferry crammed with Brits, some of whom had had to get all the way from Spain, couldn't even get near the harbours at Calais and Boulogne etc so had come further north. AND THEN, when we got to Harwich, the last train had already left ... true British organisation.

Ah yes - last time I had to take the train back from Romania which was extremely interesting and educational!
