What's your poison?
In April, pet food with additives from China was blamed for poisoning thousands of cats and dogs in America and was banned. This week Singapore banned three Chinese toothpastes which were found to be poisonous and Beijing has now published its first 5 year plan for improving food and drug safety, acknowledging that the safety problems are "severe". The position of Head of China's State Food and Drug Administration is a dubious job opportunity. The last one was sentenced to death in May, having been found guilty of taking bribes to approve fake medicines.

Hmm.. Not that different from the American FDA, which is in the pocket of Big Pharma.
One of my daughters works within the pharmaceutical industry in the UK and only QP's (qualified persons); as she is can release new medicines on to the market. This is a qualification obtained after much study and many examinations, after doing a Science degree.

Reassuring MMQC, to know that there won't be any repeats of the Vioxx debacle..

I am still in shock regarding poison toothpaste but giving a death sentence for approving fake medicines is harsh. He must have done something else?
so much for job security.
violetsvintage - probably not, the number of people executed in China every year would make you blanche.
Of course we don't get to hear about it because the Western media are very big on improving China's image ahead of the Beijing Olympics because big business is chomping at the bit to get even more juicy contracts from the Chinese.
